BAYCOL DESCRIPTION:
CERIVASTATIN - ORAL (seh-RIV-uh-stat-in)

BAYCOL SIDE EFFECTS:
Nausea, diarrhea, constipation, headache, or dizziness may occur. If these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor. Report promptly stomach pain, arthritis-like pain, sinus congestion, or sore throat. Unlikely but report promptly back pain, chest pain, muscle weakness or pain, leg pain or swelling, difficulty sleeping, coughing, rash, or vision problems. Very unlikely but report promptly yellowing skin or eyes, vomiting, fever, mental/mood changes, sexual problems or unusual changes in the amount of urine. In the unlikely event you have an allergic reaction to this drug, seek medical attention immediately. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash, itching, swelling, dizziness or trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

HOW TO USE BAYCOL:
BAYCOL: Take exactly as directed by mouth, usually once daily in the evening with or without food. When used with cholestyramine, cerivastatin should be taken at least 2 hours after taking cholestyramine. The full effect on cholesterol is usually seen in 4 weeks.

BAYCOL USES:
Cerivastatin is used to lower cholesterol and fats in the blood to help prevent heart attacks and strokes.

BAYCOL PRECAUTIONS:
Before using BAYCOL, tell your doctor your entire medical history, including any allergies (especially drug allergies), liver or kidney disease, history of alcohol use, uncontrolled seizure disorder or severe gland or blood disorders (e.g., serious electrolyte imbalances). Limit alcohol intake as it may enhance certain side effects of BAYCOL. Since BAYCOL may cause dizziness or fatigue, use caution if operating machinery or performing hazardous tasks (e.g., driving). BAYCOL must not be used during pregnancy. If you become pregnant or think you may be pregnant, inform your doctor immediately. BAYCOL is excreted into breast milk. Because of the potential risk to the infant, breast-feeding while using this drug is not recommended. Consult your doctor before breast- feeding.

BAYCOL DRUG INTERACTIONS:
Tell your doctor of all nonprescription and prescription medication you may use, especially fibric acid drugs (e.g., gemfibrozil, clofibrate); bile acid resins (e.g., cholestyramine); high-dose niacin; immune suppression drugs (e.g., cyclosporine); certain antibiotics (e.g., erythromycin); azole antifungal agents (e.g., ketoconazole); spironolactone and protease inhibitors (e.g., indinavir). Do not eat grapefruit or drink grapefruit juice unless your doctor instructs you otherwise. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.

BAYCOL OVERDOSE:
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.

BAYCOL NOTES:
Your doctor may periodically perform lab tests during treatment to monitor your progress. For best results, exercise regularly and follow a doctor- approved, low-fat, low-cholesterol diet.

MISSED BAYCOL DOSE:
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up.

BAYCOL STORAGE:
Store at room temperature below 77 degrees F (25 degrees C) away from light and moisture.
