BRETYLIUM TOSYLATE DESCRIPTION:
BRETYLIUM TOSYLATE - INJECTION (breh-TILL-ee-um)
BRETYLIUM TOSYLATE SIDE EFFECTS:
Dizziness, nausea, vomiting or pain/redness at the injection site may occur. If these effects persist or worsen, notify the doctor. Very unlikely but report promptly slow or irregular heart beat, fainting, headache, chest pain, change in amount of urine, rash, mental/mood changes, fever, sweating or trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
HOW TO USE BRETYLIUM TOSYLATE:
BRETYLIUM TOSYLATE: BRETYLIUM TOSYLATE is given either into a vein (IV) or into a muscle (IM), as directed by the doctor. When given into a muscle, the site of injection is changed with each injection to minimize side effects. BRETYLIUM TOSYLATE is generally given with the patient lying down in order to minimize side effects. Dosage is based on the patient's medical condition and response to the drug. Follow all directions for proper mixing and dilution with certain IV fluids. Consult the pharmacist. BRETYLIUM TOSYLATE should be checked visually for particles or discoloration before use. If present, do not use the liquid.
BRETYLIUM TOSYLATE USES:
BRETYLIUM TOSYLATE is used to control heart rate and rhythm (e.g., ventricular fibrillation) on a short-term basis.
BRETYLIUM TOSYLATE PRECAUTIONS:
Tell the doctor the patient's medical history, including any allergies, kidney disease, heart disease, blocked blood vessels (aortic stenosis), or lung problems (pulmonary hypertension). To avoid dizziness and lightheadedness, the patient should remain lying down or, if necessary, get up slowly when rising from a seated or lying position. Caution is advised when using BRETYLIUM TOSYLATE in the elderly since they may be more sensitive to the effects of the drug. BRETYLIUM TOSYLATE should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with the doctor. It is not known whether BRETYLIUM TOSYLATE is excreted into breast milk. Consult the doctor before breast-feeding.
BRETYLIUM TOSYLATE DRUG INTERACTIONS:
Tell the doctor of all nonprescription and prescription medication the patient may use, especially digoxin; catecholamines (e.g., dopamine or norepinephrine); or other heart rhythm medications (e.g., quinidine, procainamide, propranolol). Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
BRETYLIUM TOSYLATE OVERDOSE:
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
BRETYLIUM TOSYLATE NOTES:
Do not share BRETYLIUM TOSYLATE with others. Laboratory and/or medical tests will be performed to monitor for side effects and response to treatment.
MISSED BRETYLIUM TOSYLATE DOSE:
Not applicable.
BRETYLIUM TOSYLATE STORAGE:
Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 - 30 degrees C) away from light and moisture. Do not freeze. After mixing and dilution in IV fluids (consult the pharmacist for details), BRETYLIUM TOSYLATE is stable at room temperature for 48 hours or when refrigerated at 39 degrees F(4 degrees C) for 7 days.
