HOW TO USE DEXEDRINE:
DEXEDRINE: It is best to take DEXEDRINE early in the day to prevent trouble sleeping at night. Use DEXEDRINE exactly as prescribed. Do not increase your dose, take it more frequently or use it for a longer period of time than prescribed because DEXEDRINE can be habit-forming. Also, if used for an extended period of time, do not suddenly stop using DEXEDRINE without your doctor's approval. When used for an extended period, DEXEDRINE may not work as well and may require different dosing. Talk with your doctor if DEXEDRINE stops working well. In attention deficit disorder, your doctor may recommend "drug holidays" where the medication is stopped temporarily and behavior is evaluated.
DEXEDRINE WARNING:
Dextroamphetamine has been widely misused. When used for weight reduction, DEXEDRINE should be used only when other therapies have failed. DEXEDRINE can be habit-forming and, if used for an extended period, may lead to drug dependence and abuse. See
DEXEDRINE USES:
DEXEDRINE stimulates nerve cells in the brain. It is used in the treatment of narcolepsy or attention deficit disorder with hyperactivity in children and adults.
DEXEDRINE PRECAUTIONS:
Tell your doctor your complete medical history especially if you have high blood pressure, an over-active thyroid, glaucoma, diabetes or are emotionally unstable as another medicine may be more appropriate for you. Avoid "stimulant" drugs that may increase your heart rate such as decongestants or caffeine. Decongestants are commonly found in over-the-counter cough-and-cold medicine. DEXEDRINE must be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. Because small amounts of DEXEDRINE appear in breast milk, breast-feeding is not recommended while taking this medicine. DEXEDRINE can be habit forming and must be used with caution. Alcohol can increase unwanted side effects of dizziness. Avoid alcohol use.
DEXEDRINE DRUG INTERACTIONS:
Inform your doctor about all the medicines you use especially if you take high blood pressure medicine, MAO inhibitors (e.g., furazolidone, phenelzine, selegiline, tranylcypromine), meperidine, digoxin, anti-depressants and of any other drugs you may use, both prescription and nonprescription. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
