LINDANE Drug Information

Drug Name: LINDANE

LINDANE DESCRIPTION:
LINDANE - TOPICAL LOTION, CREAM (LINN-dane)

LINDANE SIDE EFFECTS:
LINDANE may cause a rash, stinging, burning or redness of skin. Inform your doctor if these symptoms persist or become bothersome. It may indicate that some of the medication was absorbed through the skin. Notify your doctor immediately if you experience the following very unlikely effects: vomiting, dizzy spells, convulsions. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

HOW TO USE LINDANE:
LINDANE: Shake the lotion well before using. If you are pregnant or nursing wear disposable rubber gloves when applying LINDANE. Discard gloves after use. If you are applying medication to more than one person wear rubber gloves when applying LINDANE to prevent absorption through the skin. Discard gloves after use. If applying to infants, cover their hands and feet after applying medication to insure they do not ingest any medication. Apply the medication to skin in a thin layer and rub in well. Apply from the neck down to the bottoms of feet unless your doctor tells you otherwise. Do not apply to eyes and do not take internally by mouth. Trim finger and toenails and apply under the nails with a toothbrush. Discard toothbrush after using. Leave medication on for 8 to not more than 12 hours. Leaving on overnight is usually sufficient. Remove medication with a thorough washing in shower or bath. For children under 6 years of age 1 ounce (30 ml) is enough. For older children 1 to 2 ounces (30 to 60 mls) is enough. For adults 1 to 2 ounces (30 to 60 mls) is enough.

LINDANE USES:
LINDANE is used to treat scabies.

LINDANE PRECAUTIONS:
LINDANE should not be used if you have: seizure disorders, open wounds or sores, an allergy to lindane. Elderly persons may be more sensitive to the effects of this medication and a dose reduction may be required. Consult your doctor before applying. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or breast-feeding. Pregnant women should not be treated more than twice during the pregnancy.

LINDANE DRUG INTERACTIONS:
Inform your doctor about all the medicines you take (both prescription and nonprescription). Do not use other creams, lotions, ointments or oils while using LINDANE. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.

LINDANE OVERDOSE:
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. This medicine may be harmful if swallowed. Symptoms of overdose may include nausea, vomiting, restlessness, unsteadiness, seizures, irregular heartbeat, and bloody urine.

LINDANE NOTES:
Because scabies can be transferred from one person to another, examine all family members and close contacts. Wash all recently worn or used clothing, towels and bed linens in very hot water. LINDANE is used to treat current infestation only. It cannot be used to prevent infestation.

MISSED LINDANE DOSE:
If your doctor tells you to repeat the dose and you miss the dose do not double your next dose but use it as soon as remembered.

LINDANE STORAGE:
Store at room temperature, 59 to 86 degrees F, (15 to 30 degrees C). Do not store in the bathroom. Do not freeze.
