ORTHO-DIENESTROL SIDE EFFECTS:
ORTHO-DIENESTROL may cause headache, dizziness, lightheadedness, stomach upset, bloating or nausea. These effects should disappear as your body adjusts to the medication. Notify your doctor if you experience: severe depression, pain in the groin or calf, sudden severe headache, chest pain, shortness of breath, lumps in the breast, weakness or tingling in the arms or legs, yellowing of the eyes or skin. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
HOW TO USE ORTHO-DIENESTROL:
ORTHO-DIENESTROL: Use ORTHO-DIENESTROL as prescribed. Follow the instructions carefully. Be sure to ask your doctor if you have any questions. Fill the applicator with the medication according to directions. Insert the applicator high into the vagina and press the plunger to release the medication. Clean the applicator with warm soapy water and rinse well.
ORTHO-DIENESTROL WARNING:
ORTHO-DIENESTROL has been reported to increase the chance of womb (endometrial) cancer in women who have been through menopause. This risk appears to depend on the length of time this drug is used and the amount of estrogen per dose. If you use ORTHO-DIENESTROL for an extended period, you should be evaluated at least every 6 months. If you experience abnormal vaginal bleeding, notify your doctor promptly. ORTHO-DIENESTROL is not effective in preventing or treating a tendency to lose a fetus (natural habitual abortion) nor the threat of losing a fetus. ORTHO-DIENESTROL must not be used during pregnancy because its use may result in birth defects or cancer later in the child's life. If you become pregnant or think you may be pregnant, consult your doctor immediately to discuss the risk to the fetus.
ORTHO-DIENESTROL USES:
Estrogens are hormones used for replacement in women who are no longer producing proper amounts. ORTHO-DIENESTROL is used to treat symptoms associated with menopause.
ORTHO-DIENESTROL PRECAUTIONS:
Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: bone disease, heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, epilepsy, kidney disease, liver disease, blood disorders, migraines, fibrocystic breast disease, gallbladder disease, history of depression, allergies. Cigarette smoking may increase the risk of adverse effects. Inform your doctor if you smoke. Depending on strength, ORTHO-DIENESTROL may cause a patchy, darkening of facial skin (melasma). Higher strengths are more likely to cause melasma. Sunlight may intensify this darkening and you may need to avoid prolonged sun exposure and sunlamps. Consult your doctor regarding use of sunscreens and protective clothing. ORTHO-DIENESTROL must not be used during pregnancy. If you become pregnant or think you may be pregnant, inform your doctor immediately. This type of medication has been shown to affect the quantity and quality of breast milk. Also, there is a risk ORTHO-DIENESTROL may have undesirable effects on a nursing infant. Do not breast-feed without first consulting your doctor.
ORTHO-DIENESTROL DRUG INTERACTIONS:
Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take, especially of: blood thinners, corticosteroids, seizure medication, antidepressants, thyroid medication. This product can affect the results of certain lab tests. Make sure laboratory personnel and your doctors know you use ORTHO-DIENESTROL. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
ORTHO-DIENESTROL OVERDOSE:
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. This medicine may be harmful if swallowed.
ORTHO-DIENESTROL NOTES:
Keep this and all medications out of the reach of children and pets.
MISSED ORTHO-DIENESTROL DOSE:
If you miss a dose, use it as soon as remembered; do not use if it is almost time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up.
ORTHO-DIENESTROL STORAGE:
Store at room temperature away from sunlight. Avoid freezing.
