PYRAZINAMIDE DESCRIPTION:
PYRAZINAMIDE - ORAL (pir-uh-ZIN-uh-mide)
PYRAZINAMIDE SIDE EFFECTS:
Stomach upset, muscle aches or acne may occur the first several days as your body adjusts to the medication. If any of these effects continue or become bothersome, inform your doctor. Notify your doctor if you develop fever, nausea, vomiting, weakness, dark urine, jaundice, pain or swelling of the joints or a skin rash while taking PYRAZINAMIDE. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
HOW TO USE PYRAZINAMIDE:
PYRAZINAMIDE: Take PYRAZINAMIDE as prescribed. To be most effective, be sure to take each dose on time. Try not to miss any doses. Do not increase your dose or take this more often than directed. It is important to continue taking this for the full time prescribed. Sometimes it is necessary to take this for 2 months or longer to be sure the infection is completely cleared. PYRAZINAMIDE is usually given once a day, but may be divided into 3 or 4 doses if needed. In some cases, PYRAZINAMIDE is given only twice a week. Talk to your doctor about this alternative dosing schedule.
PYRAZINAMIDE USES:
PYRAZINAMIDE is used in the treatment of tuberculosis. It is often used in combination with other anti-tuberculosis medications.
PYRAZINAMIDE PRECAUTIONS:
Tell your doctor if you have any pre-existing kidney disease, liver disease, gout, diabetes or if you have any allergies. PYRAZINAMIDE should be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. Since small amounts of PYRAZINAMIDE are found in breast milk, consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
PYRAZINAMIDE DRUG INTERACTIONS:
Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take. Limit your intake of alcoholic beverages while taking this medication since the risk of side effects may be increased. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
PYRAZINAMIDE OVERDOSE:
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
PYRAZINAMIDE NOTES:
Laboratory tests will be done periodically while taking PYRAZINAMIDE to monitor its effectiveness and to prevent side effects.
MISSED PYRAZINAMIDE DOSE:
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up.
PYRAZINAMIDE STORAGE:
Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from heat and light. Do not store in the bathroom.
