Drug Name: SYNAGIS

SYNAGIS DESCRIPTION:
PALIVIZUMAB - INJECTION (pal-ih-VYE-zyou-mab)

Synagis

SYNAGIS SIDE EFFECTS:
Pain, redness, or mild swelling of the injection site may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, contact your doctor or pharmacist promptly. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: cough, chest pain, fever. An allergic reaction to SYNAGIS is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

HOW TO USE SYNAGIS:
SYNAGIS: Give SYNAGIS directly into the muscle (IM), usually once a month during RSV season; or as directed by your doctor. For maximum benefit from SYNAGIS, keep all scheduled medical appointments and receive each prescribed dose of SYNAGIS during RSV season. In the northern hemisphere, RSV season generally runs from November through April. Follow all instructions for proper mixing and dilution with the correct IV fluids. Do not shake the vial. Ask your pharmacist if you have questions regarding the use of SYNAGIS. Before using, check this product visually for particles or discoloration. If either is present, do not use the liquid.

SYNAGIS USES:
Palivizumab is a monoclonal antibody. It is used to prevent viral respiratory tract infections (RSV infection) in infants and young children at risk for infection. It works by preventing the growth of RSV.

SYNAGIS PRECAUTIONS:
Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: blood clotting problems (e.g., thrombocytopenia, coagulation disorder), any allergies you may have. SYNAGIS should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. It is not known if SYNAGIS passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

SYNAGIS DRUG INTERACTIONS:
Tell your doctor or pharmacist of all prescription and nonprescription drugs you may use, especially of: "blood thinners" (e.g., warfarin, heparins). Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.

SYNAGIS OVERDOSE:
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.

SYNAGIS NOTES:
Do not share SYNAGIS with others. Laboratory and/or medical tests may be performed to monitor for side effects and response to treatment.

MISSED SYNAGIS DOSE:
If you miss a dose, contact your doctor or pharmacist immediately to establish a new dosing schedule.

SYNAGIS STORAGE:
Refrigerate between 36 and 46 degrees F (2 to 8 degrees C) away from light and moisture. Do not freeze. After mixing in correct IV fluids (consult your pharmacist for details), use the injection within six hours. Discard any unused liquid.
