HOW TO USE TIGAN:
TIGAN: Swallow capsules with a full glass of water or juice and take as directed by your doctor.
TIGAN WARNING:
Do not give children trimethobenzamide to treat vomiting when the cause of vomiting is unknown. Trimethobenzamide may contribute to the development of Reye's Syndrome, a rare but serious illness.
TIGAN USES:
TIGAN is used to treat nausea and vomiting.
TIGAN PRECAUTIONS:
Tell your doctor your medical history, especially: high fever, stomach problems, encephalitis, electrolyte imbalances (vitamin/mineral imbalance), any allergies. Children and teenagers should not use TIGAN if they have chickenpox, influenza, uncomplicated vomiting or any undiagnosed illness without first consulting a doctor about Reye's syndrome, a rare but serious illness. Do not give trimethobenzamide (or aspirin or acetaminophen) to a child with symptoms of Reye's Syndrome (sudden, severe, persistent vomiting; drowsiness or stupor; unusual behavior; and seizures). Call the doctor if these symptoms are present. Limit alcohol intake because it adds to the drowsiness and dizziness effects of trimethobenzamide. If dizziness or drowsiness occurs, use caution engaging in activities requiring alertness such as driving. TIGAN should be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. It is not known if TIGAN is excreted into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
TIGAN DRUG INTERACTIONS:
Tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescription medications you may use, especially: narcotic pain medication (e.g., codeine), sleeping pills, tranquilizers, sedatives, barbiturates (e.g., phenobarbital), drowsiness-causing antihistamines (e.g., diphenhydramine). Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
TIGAN OVERDOSE:
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
TIGAN NOTES:
If vomiting occurs just after taking a capsule, the medication may not have had a chance to be absorbed. In these cases, use of the suppositories are recommended. Discuss this with your doctor or pharmacist. Do not allow anyone else to take TIGAN.
MISSED TIGAN DOSE:
Take any missed dose as soon as possible but not if it is almost time for the next dose. If it is time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up.
TIGAN STORAGE:
Store at room temperature and keep away from moisture and sunlight. Do not store in the bathroom.
