VANTIN DESCRIPTION:

VANTIN SIDE EFFECTS:
VANTIN may cause stomach upset, diarrhea, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, and headache. If they continue or become severe, inform your doctor. Other side effects reported with VANTIN include anxiety, insomnia and dizziness. Inform your doctor if any of these effects occur. Unlikely to occur but report a fever, easy bleeding or bruising or a change in the amount of urine. Notify your doctor immediately if an allergic reaction occurs while taking VANTIN. Symptoms include difficulty breathing, skin rash, hives, itching. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
HOW TO USE VANTIN:
VANTIN: VANTIN should be taken with food. The liquid suspension form of VANTIN must be shaken well before using.
VANTIN USES:
Cefpodoxime proxetil is a cephalosporin antibiotic used to treat a variety of bacterial infections.
VANTIN PRECAUTIONS:
Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: any allergies (especially to penicillin or cephalosporin antibiotics), kidney disease, stomach problems, colitis. Use of VANTIN for prolonged or repeated periods may result in a secondary infection (e.g., oral, bladder or vaginal yeast infection). VANTIN should be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy. Since small amounts of VANTIN are found in breast milk, consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
VANTIN DRUG INTERACTIONS:
Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take including: probenecid (for gout), "blood thinners" (e.g., warfarin), any other antibiotics. Diabetics should be aware VANTIN may cause false positive urine glucose tests. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist about alternative ways to monitor your sugar levels. VANTIN may interfere with the effectiveness of birth control pills. Discuss using other methods of birth control with your doctor. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
VANTIN OVERDOSE:
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.
VANTIN NOTES:
VANTIN has been prescribed for your current condition only. Do not use it later for another infection or give it to someone else. A different medication may be necessary.
MISSED VANTIN DOSE:
If you should miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered unless it is almost time for the next dose. If it is nearly time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose.
VANTIN STORAGE:
Store tablets and capsules at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (between 15 and 30 degrees C) away from moisture and sunlight. Do not store in the bathroom. Liquid suspensions should be stored in the refrigerator, but not the freezer. Check the expiration date and discard any unused medication after that date.
