Drug Name: ZYMASE
ZYMASE DESCRIPTION:
PANCRELIPASE - ORAL ENTERIC COATED CAPSULE (pan-kreh-LIP-aze)
COMMON ZYMASE BRAND NAME(S):
Cotazym-S, Creon, Pancrease, Pancron, Protilase, Ultrase, Zymase
ZYMASE SIDE EFFECTS:
Generally ZYMASE is very well tolerated and side effects are mild if they occur. Diarrhea, cramping or stomach upset may occur when starting treatment. If these effects persist or worsen, inform your doctor. Although very unlikely to occur, notify your doctor if you develop a skin rash or severe stomach distress while taking this medication. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
HOW TO USE ZYMASE:
ZYMASE: ZYMASE works best if taken with or after meals. Swallow the capsule whole. Do not crush or chew it. The capsule may also be opened, the contents sprinkled on a small amount of soft food (e.g., gelatin, applesauce) and the food swallowed immediately without chewing. Do not mix the contents of the capsule with alkaline foods such as milk or ice cream because the protective coating may dissolve prematurely. Antacids may hinder the effects of ZYMASE. Do not take an antacid at the same time as ZYMASE. Wait at least two hours between administration.
ZYMASE USES:
ZYMASE contains digestive enzymes which help digest and absorb foods. It is used to treat symptoms of pancreatitis or other various digestive disorders.
ZYMASE PRECAUTIONS:
Tell your doctor if you are allergic to pork. ZYMASE should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. It is not known if ZYMASE appears in breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
ZYMASE OVERDOSE:
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
MISSED ZYMASE DOSE:
Take any missed dose as soon as possible but not if it is almost time for the next dose. If it is time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose.
ZYMASE STORAGE:
Store at room temperature and keep away from moisture and heat. Do not store in the bathroom.
